One way you can help your child learn to read is to play with rhymes. This might be reading books that rhyme such as Cat in the Hat. Other times could be when you are sitting and waiting for something, such as getting a seat at a restaurant. It will entertain both you and her to come up with silly words and also teach patience.
Rhyming helps develop the concept of words being made up of individual sounds. By adding new sounds to the ends, the word should rhyme, even if it is a “silly” word.
One of the first symptoms that indicates there may be a learning difficulty, such as dyslexia, is when a child has a difficult time creating rhymes. When this problem is seen, time should be spent working on the skill.
