Summer is here and it may seem unfair to have a student who struggles with school work spend their free time doing more academic work, but the opposite is true. This is the time to get in some frequent and intense tutoring to increase their reading abilities.
When students return to school, almost all have regressed somewhat. Many teachers have to spend the first several weeks reviewing the prior grade’s curriculum. It is an unfortunate loss of instructional time and one reason why several educators are pushing for year round school years.
Students who already struggle are already behind and after a summer off with little to no instruction in the subjects they struggle in, they will only suffer more. Instruction over the summer cannot only assist them with maintaining what they learn, but can also help them gain ground.
